THE BIOLOGY OF BECOMING

Your Body
Isn't Broken.
It's Responding.

Every meal. Every workout. Every night's sleep. Every stressful moment. Every meaningful relationship. Your body is listening. And slowly, quietly, faithfully, it is adapting to the signals you send it every day.

A new book from double board certified physician and bestselling author Thomas Hemingway, MD, exploring the science of how your daily signals shape your metabolism, energy, strength, healthspan, lifespan—and ultimately the person you're becoming.

Change the signals.
Change your biology.

Change your life.

THE BIG IDEA

What if we've been asking the
wrong question?

FOR YEARS WE'VE ASKED

"What's wrong with me?"

A BETTER QUESTION

"What is my body responding to?"

Your body is remarkably adaptive. Give it one set of signals, and it adapts in one direction. Change those signals, and it can begin adapting in another. That's the idea at the heart of

The Biology of Becoming.

This isn't another book about chasing health hacks, obsessing over biomarkers, or trying to live forever. It's about learning to understand the language of your biology—so you can begin working with your body instead of constantly fighting against it.

Because your future isn't created someday. You're building it right now.

MY STORY

Why I Wrote This Book

For years, I practiced medicine where disease becomes impossible to ignore—the emergency department. Real life ER drama. Heart attacks. Strokes. Diabetes complications. Lives changing in an instant.

But what I realized is that most emergencies don't begin in the emergency room.

The body had often been whispering for years before it finally screamed.

That realization changed the direction of my career. I became increasingly interested not simply in treating disease—but in understanding how we create health.

Why does one person remain strong, energetic and capable as they age while another struggles decades earlier? How much of aging is inevitable? And how much might reflect the signals we've repeatedly sent our biology for years?

Those questions eventually became The Biology of Becoming. I'm writing this book because I believe we need a more hopeful way of understanding our bodies.

Your body isn't trying to betray you.

It's trying to protect you.

And perhaps one of the most powerful things we can learn is how to protect it in return.

THIS IS NOT REALLY ABOUT LONGEVITY

What are you getting healthy for?

I don't want longevity simply because I want more birthdays.

I want...

More mornings in the ocean. More adventures.

More time with the people I love. More opportunities to serve.

More years when my body allows me to say:

"Yes. I can still do that."

That's what The Biology of Becoming is really about. Not simply adding years to your life, but truly adding life to your years—building a biology capable of putting more life into your years.

TWO-WAY CONVERSATION

Help Me Shape the Book

I'm still putting the finishing touches on The Biology of Becoming, and I'd love your help. If you could sit across from me for 30 minutes and ask me one question about aging, energy, metabolism, longevity, muscle, hormones, sleep, supplements—or becoming healthier...

What would you ask?

Your question may help shape a future chapter, podcast, or resource from The Biology of Becoming.

THE FINAL WORD

Who are you becoming?

Ten years from now, your life will look different. So will your body.

The question is: what are you asking it to become?

Your body isn't broken. It's responding.

Every choice is a signal. Every signal shapes your biology.

And every day, you're becoming someone.
